Minnesota is the first state to ban trichloroethylene (TCE), a toxic chemical that can increase risk for certain types of cancer and other serious health issues.
The Minnesota House of Representatives approved a bill May 13, prohibiting the use of TCE, following the Senate’s bipartisan lead three weeks ago. Authored by Rep. Ami Wazlawik (DFL – White Bear Township), the bill will protect Minnesotans from the carcinogen, which for years was spewed into the air surrounding the Water Gremlin plant in White Bear Township. The Minnesota House passed a bill Wednesday to ban the use of toxic chemical TCE. Gov. Tim Walz is expected to sign it into law this week, which would make Minnesota the first state to ban TCE.

Moratorium on large dairies proposed at Minnesota Legislature

A bill in the Minnesota Legislature would impose a four-year moratorium on large new dairy farms or expansions.
The bill, introduced this week by Reps. Ami Wazlawik, Todd Lippert and Jamie Becker-Finn, would forbid the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency or counties from issuing permits for “constructing or expanding a dairy-animal operation that will be capable of holding more than 1,000 animal units after construction or expansion.” Read more
