Education

Ami believes that every child in Minnesota, no matter what they look like or where they come from, should have access to a world-class education.

Ami has worked in public schools in some capacity or another since she was in high school. She has seen firsthand the struggles and difficulties facing our students, families, and school staff. Ami supports fully and equitably funding our schools; expanding access to high-quality early learning programs; and increasing support staff, including school counselors, social workers, and nurses.

During her first term as a legislator, Ami introduced legislation that would provide additional funding for the Minnesota Math Corps, require schools to have safety assessment teams, improve teachers’ access to effective resources by expanding the definition of “textbook”*, and provide incentives to retain early educators.

Ami also co-authored other education-related legislation, including bills that would:

  • Provide grant funding for Race2Reduce water conservation programming in schools
  • Allow for competency-based education
  • Provide grant funding to school districts for teachers to receive mental health training
  • Provide funding to enhance Reading and Math Corps programming at American Indian-controlled tribal contract and grant schools

Ami also supported an increase in funding for our schools and efforts to invest more in early learning and care.

*This legislation was passed and signed into law.
